Sharing Health

Sometimes when we’re dedicated to being healthy we can feel left out of parties get-togethers and family gatherings. It doesn’t have to be that way, the benefits to a healthy lifestyle is it’s contagious. Share your wish of health with them, everyone wants the people in their life to be happy and free of illness. Food connects people. Share food you find exciting, surprising, and make the extra effort to make it special.

Find the definition of healthy that is appropriate for the occasion. Not everyone wants to eat carrots and celery for their Holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions.  Yet, not every time you spend time with friends should illicit a splurge. My words of advice is plan, what are you going to eat and how much. Second, define healthy for you at that moment. Healthy is better definable as a spectrum, everyone has ideas on whats right for them.

When I found the this chocolate cake recipe for my friends that have multiple food allergies I was happy to find a way so they can partake in the celebrations. I decided to try a raw recipe from Ani Phyo looking to be more creative in the kitchen and use all my resources to make food fun, interesting, tastey and of course as healthy as possible. Since the recipe called for all whole food sources and minimum processing with no cooking I knew that this would be good for all types of occasions by inviting people to eat something indulgent yet wholesome. Hard Baked Eggs

I’m a big proponent of plan and prep your weekly menu so you can eat healthy and stick to a budget.

Hard baked eggs are something one of my members turned me on to. It seemed easier to me to do large batch of eggs in the oven instead boiling them. So I’ve done both and I find my results to be more consistent and easier to peel than the latter. So this is how I do my eggs from now on.

Hard baked eggs

Preheat oven to 325°F

Place eggs directly on rack I do a staggered pattern to get as many as possible on. leave on to 20-25 min. depending on how you like your eggs done. When finished I like to use a pair of thongs to safely get them out of the oven into an ice bath. Once cooled I place them in the fridge for a quick meal, added to salad, or an easy breakfast.

Jeans Challenge Winners

The Jeans Challenge awards points for how well you stick to your assigned habits, getting in your jeans is just a healthy side effect.

After a ver tight race Amanda took first winning a $150 Nordstrom Gift Certificate, Elinor took second recieving a certificate for a massage at Northwest Therapeutic Massage, Marian took third receiving a certificate for a pedicure, and Laurie took forth receiving a copy of the Gourmet Nutrition cookbook.

The challenge is limited to ten participants and the next Jeans Challenge starts in September!

Dramatic Increase in Shoulder Mobility

Last night Chris stopped by to try a jujutsu class with a friend then stayed to workout.  During the warmup we identified some mobility issues in the shoulder.  He explained that he had a rotator cuff injury ten years prior while skiing and the shoulder had limited mobility since.

After less then ten minutes of neuro-drills we had increased his lateral flexion about 30 degrees, and his external rotation at least as much!

Congratulations to Isaac!

Isaac earned his blue shirt by beating the 2012 Taiso Performance Challenge Stage One.  Who will be next?

The Challenge Series consists of seven events, each with three levels of difficulty.  When a member can successfully meet the stand for the power level for four of the seven events they earn the blue shirt.  Additionally, if they can beat all seven they get the black shirt. The Challenge is conducted on the first Monday and third Saturday of each month till the end of the year.
